Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 21, 2022
Read Psalm 27:1-3, 13-14
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation. Should I fear anyone? The LORD is a fortress protecting my life. Should I be frightened of anything? 2 When evildoers come at me trying to eat me up it’s they, my foes and my enemies, who stumble and fall! 3 If an army camps against me, my heart won’t be afraid. If war comes up against me, I will continue to trust in this.
13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Good Morning, The Lord is my light and my salvation. Praise God!
Jesus is the light of our salvation. What is light? What is darkness? John tells us that light is the presence of God, whereas darkness is the absence of God. 1 In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5 NIV
For Christians, light represents holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, grace, hope, and God's revelation. Throughout both the Old Testament and New Testament, we read about the light of God. God doesn’t promise an easy life, but God does promise to be with us no matter what circumstances we encounter.
Many people are living in darkness without God. In the darkness lurk evil and sin, and those in the darkness are lost and desperate. If you spend enough time in the darkness, you forget about the light and trudge through your life aimlessly. Christ came to bring light to all. Remember the story of the lost lamb: Christ searched for the one who was lost and all celebrated when the sheep was found.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Paul says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” We are recipients of the light of Christ. We should not live our lives in fear because God has promised to care for and provide for us always. When we look around us we see the signs of God’s hope that surround us. Focus on the light! Do not fear! Thank God for each day!
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Sometimes we slip into the shadows of darkness because we are curious. Thank you for sending Christ to provide us with the light to find our way home. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Today I will tell God what I am grateful for.
Come to the light! Pastor Liz
