Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  October 21, 2024

Romans 8:35-39

35 Who will separate us from Christ’s love? Will we be separated by trouble, or distress, or harassment, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, We are being put to death all day long for your sake. We are treated like sheep for slaughter. 37 But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. 38 I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 39 or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.

Good Morning! Look for signs of God surrounding you!

Oh, what a beautiful morning! I love the morning skies in the Fall. They are full of rich, vibrant colors, and each day presents a new variation of hues. Long before the world awakens for a new day, God is busy preparing a place for us.

Evil has a strong hold on the earth. We see corruption, violence, and injustice invading our communities. The only power that can overcome evil is the power of God. God’s love is greater than any force on earth.

Jesus calls us to share God’s love with all we meet. Each time we share, the love grows as it is passed to others. We cannot be discouraged when we are shunned. Those living without hope build strong walls to protect themselves from more disappointment, so it may take time to build the trust that allows them to lower their walls and accept our offerings of love.

Within each person is a lost child of God, waiting to be found. We cannot find those whom we do not seek. It's our responsibility, as followers of Christ, to remove our blinders and actively seek the lost and lonely. In finding them, we will not only find the best pieces of ourselves, but also fulfill our duty to God.

Dear Lord, We are your children! Thank you for rescuing us. You place goodness and love within each of your children. May we never stop seeking the lost and lonely. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Opportunities to show God’s love are all around us.
