Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

Read Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, 29 giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. 30 Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
Good Morning! Flying on Wings Like Eagles
I love discovering new examples of God’s mysterious ways. This morning as I am feeling the tiredness in my body of a long, productive week, I chuckled when I saw this morning’s passage from Isaiah. This is another passage upon which I rely when I feel worn down by life’s challenges.
I thank God for giving me free will, but I understand that the ability to make choices comes with the likelihood of obstacles blocking my path. As we encounter what seem to be neverending challenges, we become weary and each new problem seems a little harder than the previous one. This cycle can continue until we reach that seemingly insurmountable “mountain”.
During our biggest struggles, it is easy to become focused on the problem and not on God. This is one of the reasons to establish a daily time of meditation and conversation with God. When all is well, we talk to God, when we have doubts, we talk to God, and when things seem impossible to overcome, we talk to God. Do we always trust that God will see us through? Probably not! But to coin a popular phrase, we can fake it, until we make it.
As long as we have established that open line of communication, God will guide us and support us until we are ready to turn our worries over. Talking to God daily is crucial in our lives. Never forget that with faith the size of a mustard seed, we can move the biggest mountains. God’s ways are not our ways! Embrace our Lord who will renew your strength so that you may run and not be tired, and walk and not be weary.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. One of our greatest human frailities is the lack of true faith. Help us give ourselves to you fully so that we may feel your love and strength within us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will help me over every hurdle I face.
Soar with the Eagles! Pastor Liz
