Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
October 25, 2021
Read Genesis 9:12-17
12 God said, “This is the symbol of the covenant that I am drawing up between me and you and every living thing with you, on behalf of every future generation. 13 I have placed my bow in the clouds; it will be the symbol of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember the covenant between me and you and every living being among all the creatures. Floodwaters will never again destroy all creatures. 16 The bow will be in the clouds, and upon seeing it I will remember the enduring covenant between God and every living being of all the earth’s creatures.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the symbol of the covenant that I have set up between me and all creatures on earth.”
Good Morning! Look to the heavens!
Rainbows are a beautiful reminder of God’s promise to Noah; they symbolize the covenant between God and every living creature on the earth. I love that rainbows can make us say “ahh” whenever they appear. Rainbows are a prominent drawing among young children.
This past week I saw a post from my son talking about the “rainbows” they get each day from the sun shining through a prism hanging in their office window. I, too, have a prism that creates rainbows all over my walls at that special time of day. I’m not always at home when this occurs, but I never tire of seeing my “rainbows”. Each time I see them, my heart is immediately filled with joy.
For most of us, we have those times when clouds fill our lives: clouds of sadness, clouds of fear, clouds of uncertainty . . . . When our cloudy days arrive, God calls us to look to the heavens for the promise of hope symbolized by the light of Jesus. In spite of the darkness around us, God’s promise of eternal life is always with us. Look through the clouds for the glimpses of light and be revitalized.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We need to be reminded that you are always with us when we are feeling “cloudy”. Thank you for sending light through your son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: I will remember God’s promise in the rainbow.
