Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 29, 2025
Jeremiah 29:10-13
10 The LORD proclaims: When Babylon’s seventy years are up, I will come and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11 I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. 12 When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. 13 When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me.
Good Morning! The Lord plans to give us a future filled with hope.
Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promises. Throughout Jesus’ earthly walk, we read of him taking time to pray. By his example, Jesus taught us to call on God in prayer. Jesus’ prayer time didn’t wait for everything to be in order or for all needs to be met. In midstep, Jesus would retreat and take time to pray when he needed to renew himself so that he could continue his mission.
We sometimes fall into the trap of thinking, I’ll read the Bible, meditate, or pray when I get time, or when I finish what I’m doing. If we wait until there is time, we will never spend time with God because we are constantly juggling one thing or another. Our efforts and the tending of our own souls would be significantly enhanced by spending time with God.
This can be a daunting task because we often feel as if we can’t step away, even for a moment, or everything will come crashing down around us. Start with prayer, pray in the midst, and end with prayer. God wants to supply our needs for renewal so that we may find the promised peace, hope, love, and joy.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We get so busy that we forget to spend time with you. May we follow Jesus’ example of taking time to pray. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Time with God energizes us.
Speak! God is listening! Pastor Liz
