Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 31, 2022
Read Mark 13:28-31
28 “Learn this parable from the fig tree. After its branch becomes tender and it sprouts new leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 In the same way, when you see these things happening, you know that he’s near, at the door. 30 I assure you that this generation won’t pass away until all these things happen. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will certainly not pass away.
Good Morning, For everything there is a season!
As we enjoy the sights, tastes, sounds, and smells of fall, we are invigorated by the changes. I especially love the feel of fall in the crisp, cool air. After the long, hot days of summer, I simply say aah as I walk outdoors. I laugh when I think of how the pumpkin spice craze has earned an anticipated claim into our fall expectations. We also know that winter and an anticipated time of rest are just around the corner.
For our spiritual beings, the seasons are a way for us to see and rejoice in God’s promises. As we experience the cycle of life in the plants and trees that surround us, we begin to understand our own lives as we grow into the beings for which we were created.
Through the passing of seasons, God is with us. Even when things appear to have been destroyed and during our times of greatest despair, God is at work within us, healing us, and preparing us for our next season. The connecting tie that binds us all together is the Word of God.
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Help us to embrace the ever-present changes in our lives. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: In every season, God is near.
Enjoy this moment! Pastor Liz
