Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 5, 2025
Exodus 4:10-16
10 But Moses said to the LORD, “My Lord, I’ve never been able to speak well, not yesterday, not the day before, and certainly not now since you’ve been talking to your servant. I have a slow mouth and a thick tongue.” 11 Then the LORD said to him, “Who gives people the ability to speak? Who’s responsible for making them unable to speak or hard of hearing, sighted or blind? Isn’t it I, the LORD? 12 Now go! I’ll help you speak, and I’ll teach you what you should say.” 13 But Moses said, “Please, my Lord, just send someone else.” 14 Then the LORD got angry at Moses and said, “What about your brother Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak very well. He’s on his way out to meet you now, and he’s looking forward to seeing you. 15 Speak to him and tell him what he’s supposed to say. I’ll help both of you speak, and I’ll teach both of you what to do. 16 Aaron will speak for you to the people. He’ll be a spokesperson for you, and you will be like God for him.
Good Morning! The Lord will lead us forward!
Can you remember times when you have been asked to do things with which you are uncomfortable? For example, making phone calls or going to meetings to discuss a topic that causes you great anxiety. This is especially true when we expect the situation to be a confrontation.
Sometimes we try to ignore it and hope it will work out on its own. We might ask someone else to make the call on our behalf. Then there are those times we make ourselves physically sick just thinking about what we need to do.
Moses was in one of those situations. God asked him to go to Egypt and demand that the Pharaoh let the Israelites go! Talk about confrontational! Moses, who was raised in the palace, knows what happens to those who displease the Pharaoh, and this thing God is asking him to do will definitely not be to the Pharaoh’s liking. Moses politely reminds God of his limitations when it comes to speaking, but God will have none of it. God promises to help Moses complete the task that has been asked of him.
We are to stand firm in our convictions even when it places us in opposition to earthly ways or ideas. God promises to be with us and lead us through the challenges as we stand for the weak and oppressed.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We have fear when we are called to proclaim your love! Help us be strong! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will not forsake those who act in accordance with God’s will.
Stand Strong! God is with us! Pastor Liz
