Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 6, 2023
Romans 8:26-30
26 In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. 27 The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will. 28 We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 We know this because God knew them in advance, and he decided in advance that they would be conformed to the image of his Son. That way, his Son would be the first of many brothers and sisters. 30 Those whom God decided in advance would be conformed to his Son, he also called. Those whom he called, he also made righteous. Those whom he made righteous, he also glorified.
Good Morning. Let’s just praise the Lord!
Through Christ, God blessed us with the Holy Spirit. By the grace of God, the Holy Spirit stays within us, working to mold us into the ones we are meant to be. Our one baptism saves us. This is not something that needs to be redone yearly, like a flu shot, but it is a lifetime gift. Even when we stray from our path of faith, the Holy Spirit is with us, chipping away at the rough edges to conform us to be the face of Christ for the world.
Our salvation is up to us to claim. In our times of despair, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. God, the one who searches hearts seeking his children, finds us, and provides for us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Creator God, We love you! Thank you for seeking us and giving us the gift of salvation. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God seeks us by searching our hearts.
Open your heart to God! Pastor Liz
