Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 21, 2022
Read Psalm 19:1-9
1 Heaven is declaring God’s glory; the sky is proclaiming his handiwork. 2 One day gushes the news to the next, and one night informs another what needs to be known. 3 Of course, there’s no speech, no words their voices can’t be heard 4 but their sound extends throughout the world; their words reach the ends of the earth. God has made a tent in heaven for the sun. 5 The sun is like a groom coming out of his honeymoon suite; like a warrior, it thrills at running its course. 6 It rises at one end of the sky; its circuit is complete at the other. Nothing escapes its heat. 7 The LORD’s Instruction is perfect, reviving one’s very being. The LORD’s laws are faithful, making naive people wise. 8 The LORD’s regulations are right, gladdening the heart. The LORD’s commands are pure, giving light to the eyes. 9 Honoring the LORD is correct, lasting forever. The LORD’s judgments are true. All of these are righteous!
Good Morning, Rejoice, again I say rejoice!
I have taken enough pictures of sunrises and sunsets to fill the pages of many books. If our only way to see glimpses of God is in the sky, we are well blessed. I particularly love sunrises and sunsets on the beach where there is nothing to block your view, but I find equal fascination with how the mountains play tricks with these precious moments in the day.
I find all that happens in the sky just before a sunrise or a sunset as colors begin to immerge and dance unabated upon the great canvas. With each moment, new hues and colors join the scene. If you look away for just a minute, there is a totally new landscape filling the sky. When I see a view of which I would like to take a picture, I have noticed that by the time I take out my phone that view is gone, but another one has taken its place. Truly, heaven is declaring God’s glory each day as the sun crosses the sky and then the stars fill the night sky.
Perhaps, we can use this example to remind us to praise God throughout the day, every day. Each day is special as new opportunities present themselves to us. With each breath, we breathe and each step we take, allow praise to God to emit from your soul. Oh the Lord’s been good to me, and so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need. Thanks be to God!
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We love You. Your blessings are so special! Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Creation sings praises to God. How will I sing along?
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Pastor Liz
