Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 24, 2022
Read Psalm 107:1-9
1 “Give thanks to the LORD because he is good because his faithful love lasts forever!” 2 That’s what those who are redeemed by the LORD say, the ones God redeemed from the power of their enemies, 3 the ones God gathered from various countries, from east and west, north and south. 4 Some of the redeemed had wandered into the desert, into the wasteland. They couldn’t find their way to a city or town. 5 They were hungry and thirsty; their lives were slipping away. 6 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God delivered them from their desperate circumstances. 7 God led them straight to human habitation. 8 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people, 9 because God satisfied the one who was parched with thirst, and he filled up the hungry with good things!
Good Morning, Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart!
God with never leave us: God is with us now and forever! As I sit and consider the families who have lost loved ones to violence in the last week, I pray for healing for all. I also pray for the families who are joining together today without a loved one who has gone to glory since last Thanksgiving. In our times of sadness, we must lovingly remember our family members: those who have gathered and those who are in our hearts. On this day of thanks, take time to lift up a prayer and share a favorite story of those who have touched our lives.
Rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
The world as it exists in 2022 is not what God intends for us. Evil has a strong footing among so many people who are lost and in despair. How can we make a difference in this broken world? We must follow the example of Jesus and reach out to the needy, the lost, the brokenhearted, and the outcasts one at a time. When we can look past the stains of a wretched life, we will find a lost soul waiting to be found. For each person who is found, the number begins to grow exponentially. One becomes two, who become four, then eight until all join the body of believers.
Through the grace of God, all are welcome to the table of the Lord! All are worthy of praise as children of God. Despite our problems, God sees the loving beings he created us to be! When we can focus on the potential and the possibilities of others, we will see others as God sees us.
From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One;
give thanks, because he’s given
Jesus Christ, his Son.
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One;
give thanks, because he’s given
Jesus Christ, his Son.
And now let the weak say ‘I am strong’,
let the poor say ‘I am rich’,
because of what the Lord has done for us;
and now let the weak say ‘I am strong’,
let the poor say ‘I am rich’,
because of what the Lord has done for us.
Give thanks…
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We love You. Today is a day to say thanks! As we gather with our loved ones, help us look into each other's hearts and be blessed. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: My outlook improves when I focus on God’s love and provision.
Give Thanks! Pastor Liz
