Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

November 27, 2025

John 11:38-42

38 Jesus was deeply disturbed again when he came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone covered the entrance. 39 Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said, “Lord, the smell will be awful! He’s been dead four days.” 40 Jesus replied, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believe, you will see God’s glory?” 41 So they removed the stone. Jesus looked up and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 I know you always hear me. I say this for the benefit of the crowd standing here so that they will believe that you sent me.” 43 Having said this, Jesus shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his feet bound and his hands tied, and his face covered with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Untie him and let him go.”

Good Morning! Happy Thanksgiving!

Give thanks with a Grateful Heart! Holidays evoke special feelings for me! I love the Christmas season, but I have long believed Thanksgiving to be my favorite holiday! It is a day (time) set aside for giving thanks. I think that we are all thankful for a myriad of things, but our thanks often go unvoiced.

Jesus taught us by his example to express our thanks. In today’s passage, Jesus says, “Father, thank you for hearing me.” The thing for which Jesus gives thanks is simply God listening to him.

My Grateful Heart

Jesus loves me

God’s invitation to “Come.”

Those who listen

Sharing space

The presence of the Lord

May each of you read, adapt, and give thanks for your blessings!

Lord, you bless us abundantly! With a grateful heart, we give thanks to you, O Lord! We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God is with us! Praise be to God!
