Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 29, 2025Â
1 Corinthians 12:22-26
22 Instead, the parts of the body that people think are the weakest are the most necessary. 23 The parts of the body that we think are less honorable are the ones we honor the most. The private parts of our body that aren’t presentable are the ones that are given the most dignity. 24 The parts of our body that are presentable don’t need this. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the part with less honor 25 so that there won’t be division in the body and so the parts might have mutual concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part gets the glory, all the parts celebrate with it.
Good Morning! God gives glory for one and all!
We get into an unwinnable situation when we try to determine who is most important in God’s kingdom. First, God gives each of us gifts and a role to play. Second, none of us is complete without God. When we are born, we have a God-shaped hole within us. It sits waiting for us to know and accept Christ. At our Baptism, that God-shaped hole is filled by the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus, we are all made whole.Â
Think of making a loaf of bread. Certainly, the flour, water, and butter are necessary. You can’t have bread without any of these. Some breads include eggs, milk, and salt or sugar. If we mixed these ingredients together and placed them in a pan, we would end up with a heavy, flat bread that lacks the goodness we expect from bread.Â
What’s missing from our bread? Yeast: It’s the smallest ingredient, but it’s the one that allows our dough to rise and become the fluffy, lucious, great-smelling bread to which our senses are drawn.Â
The family of God, a.k.a. the body of Christ, is like that loaf of bread. When all the ingredients come together, we create a welcoming home, working as one to find the lost souls who are waiting to be found.Â
Lord, you bless us abundantly! Open our eyes to see the value of each part of the body of Christ. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Let’s celebrate each member’s value in the body of Christ.
All are needed to complete the whole! Pastor Liz
