Read Psalm 8:1-9
1 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! 2 From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. 3 When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place 4 what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? 5 You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. 6 You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet 7 all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, 8 the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea. 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
Good Morning! Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name!
What a mighty God we serve! God gives us, His children, dominion over every creature on this earth. This is a responsibility at which we have not always been good. Too many of God’s creatures have suffered, have become endangered, even extinct under our not-to-watchful eye.
Think of the first time you were given the responsibility to care for another living being: your first pet or your first “babysitting” job. Most of us would probably admit that we didn’t do very well. I remember some of my first times babysitting for a neighbor’s child. For me, I would start out with good intentions, but as the time seemed to creep by, I hoped that the parent would return soon. I quickly grew tired of the responsibility because my job was so much more than I bargained for. I happily returned my brief stint of authority to the parent who arrived a few hours later.
Maybe as God’s children, we happily accept the “job” of caring for all the creatures on this amazing earth. We embrace the idea of being In charge! Quickly, we realize the job is neverending and full of challenges we never considered. We, too, start counting the hours when we can hand over authority to someone else, to our Creator. We are imperfect, and God gives us the grace to make mistakes on our journey to eternal life. Each day is a new chance to grow into the beings that God created.
Creator God, Thank You for loving us. We bow down to your glory! Help us recognize the grace through which we can feel your love at all times in all places. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God’s grace is sufficient to see us through the challenges.
Praise! Pray! Give Thanks! Pastor Liz
