Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 30, 2022
Read John 6:47-59
47 I assure you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that whoever eats from it will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever, and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” 52 Then the Jews debated among themselves, asking, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 Jesus said to them, “I assure you, unless you eat the flesh of the Human One and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day. 55 My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in them. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me lives because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. It isn’t like the bread your ancestors ate, and then they died. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.” 59 Jesus said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Good Morning, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light.
When I opened the door to wander outside this morning, the sound of the heavy rain gave Neon and me a reason to pause. As I stood under cover, I thought about how Jesus is our “cover” to protect us from all our adversities. Thanks be to God!
This morning we will continue to wander into Advent and open our whole beings to the glory of God. Setting aside time to meditate during this busy time of year can be challenging because we have so many earthly things pulling on us and draining our physical and mental energy. I believe that our spiritual well-being is the key to our health and when we spend time with God each day all our physical and mental stress with fade away.
We are preparing for the birth of Christ, the son of God through whom we will be saved. Now is the time to let go of all the baggage that is weighing you down; it is a time of new birth. Our God is a gracious God who will wipe our slate clean when we ask for forgiveness. Through Christ, we receive the living bread and water. Those who believe will have eternal life.
Advent is a time to prepare for the birth of the one who saves us. Like the rain falling this morning, Jesus renews us with living water. Each year, we have the opportunity for this new life. Open yourself and Be renewed.
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We are blessed beyond measure. Help us to take the time to see all that is within us through Your Son. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Christmas celebrates God’s gift of Jesus to us all.
Emmanuel is coming! Pastor Liz
