Morning Devotional 113024 Be Alert!

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  November 30, 2024

Psalm 27:7-14

7 LORD, listen to my voice when I cry out have mercy on me and answer me! 8 Come, my heart says, seek God’s face. LORD, I do seek your face! 9 Please don’t hide it from me! Don’t push your servant aside angrily you have been my help! God who saves me, don’t neglect me! Don’t leave me all alone! 10 Even if my father and mother left me all alone, the LORD would take me in. 11 LORD, teach me your way; because of my opponents, lead me on a good path. 12 Don’t give me over to the desires of my enemies, because false witnesses and violent accusers have taken their stand against me. 13 But I have sure faith that I will experience the LORD’s goodness in the land of the living! 14 Hope in the LORD! Be strong! Let your heart take courage! Hope in the LORD!

Good Morning! Hope in the Lord!

Advent is a season of hope, peace, joy, and love. This first week, we focus on the hope of new light in the darkness. History tells us that God has been quiet for about 400 years since the death of the prophet Malachi. Suddenly, John the Baptist comes of age and begins proclaiming to anyone who will listen as he begins his ministry of preparing the way for the Lord.

Throughout history, we have endured times of darkness, when it seems as if the sun will never shine again, but those who place their trust and hope in the Lord are ready for the promise of a new day. God is preparing to answer the long cries of his people and sends John to set the stage.

Many questioned the crazy man with matted hair who wandered in the desert eating honey and locusts. The religious leaders had this predetermined idea of the long-awaited Messiah, and Jesus, in their eyes and minds, was not the anointed one. They missed all the signs. We must be careful not to be blinded by our expectations and miss the greatest miracle that is about to unfold.

Those who do not seek will fail to find him.

Dear Lord, We are your children! We get so busy that sometimes we forget to look for your signs. Help us to pay attention! Praise be to God! Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day:  Prepare the way in your heart for a new way as we begin Advent.

Be alert! Pastor Liz
