Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  December 1, 2024

John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. 3 Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word nothing came into being. What came into being 4 through the Word was life, In the Word was life and the life was the light for all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.

Good Morning! This is a day of new beginnings!

We have completed a 365-day journey and are now back where we started. For Christians, the first Sunday of Advent begins a new year, and it is appropriate to read John 1 this morning. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Today, we begin preparing for the arrival of the light: Jesus. Some might say, “I’ve already done this. Isn’t there anything new to do?” I say, “Thank you, God! I know I messed up, and now I get to try again! Thank you for your grace!”

As Advent begins, throw off your tiredness and spruce up your faded expectations. This is a new day filled with possibilities. God offers us a blank canvas upon which we may allow the light to consume the darkness. With God, all things are possible.

Today, we light the candle of hope! Let this single flame ignite your inner passion to share the love of God as your soul shines in the darkness.

Dear Lord, We are your children! May we embrace this opportunity to start our journey to the manger with wonder and awe. Praise be to God! Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day:  With Christ, the hope is rekindled.

Be brave! Fill yourself with hope! Pastor Liz
