Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 5, 2023
Genesis 15:1-6
1 After these events, the LORD’s word came to Abram in a vision, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your protector. Your reward will be very great.” 2 But Abram said, “LORD God, what can you possibly give me, since I still have no children? The head of my household is Eliezer, a man from Damascus.” 3 He continued, “Since you haven’t given me any children, the head of my household will be my heir.” 4 The LORD’s word came immediately to him, “This man will not be your heir. Your heir will definitely be your very own biological child.” 5 Then he brought Abram outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars if you think you can count them.” He continued, “This is how many children you will have.” 6 Abram trusted the LORD, and the LORD recognized Abram’s high moral character.
Good Morning. Take time to be holy!
We are bombarded by advertising campaigns that promise great things. Many of these claims are exaggerated, and over time, we become jaded as to the possibilities when things seem too good to be true. How would we respond if God suddenly announced some unimaginable plan for our lives? God, our Creator, reveals His plan as we are ready to comprehend it. Like Abram, God’s plan for our life may not be readily evident. In fact, we might reach a point where we feel our time has passed, and we, too, search for an alternative.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT
We are called to trust in God. Just as someone in the 1600s couldn’t imagine the technological time in which we live, we cannot imagine things that are beyond our comprehension. For now, we must wait and watch: the time will come when God reveals His plan to each of us.
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. We struggle to see those things we can’t imagine. When it is time, open our eyes so that we may see clearly. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Step out in faith and follow God’s call.
Trust and obey, God! Pastor Liz
