Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 7, 2023
Ephesians 3:14-21
14 This is why I kneel before the Father. 15 Every ethnic group in heaven or on earth is recognized by him. 16 I ask that he will strengthen you in your inner selves from the riches of his glory through the Spirit. 17 I ask that Christ will live in your hearts through faith. As a result of having strong roots in love, 18 I ask that you’ll have the power to grasp love’s width and length, height and depth, together with all believers. 19 I ask that you’ll know the love of Christ that is beyond knowledge so that you will be filled entirely with the fullness of God. 20 Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us; 21 glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus for all generations, forever and always. Amen.
Good Morning. Glory be to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
Many of us struggle to consider what is beyond what we can imagine. As youngsters, we have great imaginations. If you listen to Kindergarteners engaged in free play, they are not bound by the rules of nature or society. Everything is possible! Sadly, this changes very quickly, and before completing elementary school, they have learned to apply earthly constructs to all that surrounds them, and their world of possibilities becomes contained within these parameters.
Fortunately, in each generation, there are some who continue to see into the glorious world of imagination into their later years. Without these dreamers, we would still be living in the Stone Age because these innovators and inventors see a new way of doing things.
This same conversation can be applied to our faith journey. God invites us to join Him, and we enthusiastically agree. We spend our time learning more about God by reading the Bible and going to church. We’re excited to consider all that is possible, and then earthly realities begin to narrow or stymie our faith. We read of the miracles but think, “How is that possible?” We dutifully pray to God, but are we just saying words, or do we believe in the power of God to positively affect the situation?
In this season of hope, peace, joy, and love, allow yourself to drop the earthly constraints of your faith and embrace the miracle of a baby born to change the world.
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Allow us to believe in the miracles for which we long. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God makes all things new!
Embrace the Miracle! Pastor Liz
