Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  December 24, 2024

Psalm 139:7-12

7 Where could I go to get away from your spirit? Where could I go to escape your presence? 8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there. If I went down to the grave, you would be there too! 9 If I could fly on the wings of dawn, stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean 10 even there your hand would guide me; even there your strong hand would hold me tight! 11 If I said, “The darkness will definitely hide me; the light will become night around me,” 12 even then the darkness isn’t too dark for you! Nighttime would shine bright as day, because darkness is the same as light to you!

Good Morning! Jesus is the light of the world!

I remember playing hide and seek as a kid. One time, I hid so well that no one found me. Because I wasn’t sure if everyone had been found, I stayed hidden for a long time. Finally, I peeked my head out and saw that the game was over. Evidently, the one who was the seeker got tired of playing and gave up, but he didn’t tell me.

Jesus never gives up on us. He is with us even when we try to hide or run away. When we go someplace where we are uncomfortable, Jesus is there. When we seem surrounded by darkness, Jesus turns on the light. All we have to do is ask, and he reveals his presence to us.

As we prepare for the baby's birth this evening, thank God for sending his son to save us.

Loving Lord, We are your children! Open our hearts to feel the love that comes to us tonight. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Behold! I bring you tidings of great joy! Pastor Liz
