Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 27, 2025
Psalm 150:1-6
1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise God in his fortress, the sky! 2 Praise God in his mighty acts! Praise God as suits his incredible greatness! 3 Praise God with the blast of the ram’s horn! Praise God with lute and lyre! 4 Praise God with drum and dance! Praise God with strings and pipe! 5 Praise God with loud cymbals! Praise God with clashing cymbals! 6 Let every living thing praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
Good Morning! Praise the Lord!
Many of us grew up in churches where the expectation was not to get too loud. I recall the shocked reaction of many church members when guitars and drums first started appearing in church services.
When you read this morning’s Psalm, we see that all these things are not just appropriate, but should be considered when praising God. Ah, how silly we are when we try to fit God into our human-made boxes.
I see worshiping God as an opportunity to live into space beyond our earthly boundaries. God’s grace and abundant love are beyond our earthly parameters and understanding. By restricting ourselves within the boxes of propriety, we risk missing the nuances of embracing God’s presence in worship.
Speaking of boxes, when we begin to put away our decorations celebrating the birth of Jesus, we must not inadvertently pack away Jesus. Jesus isn’t a once-a-year guest in our homes and lives. Jesus came to be with us every minute of every day.
Let every living thing that has breath, praise the Lord.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! We praise you! Help us freely share your love. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Breathe! Praise God!
Breathe in God! Exhale Fear! Pastor Liz
