Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  August 29, 2024

Hebrews 6:13-20

13 When God gave Abraham his promise, he swore by himself since he couldn’t swear by anyone greater. 14 He said, I will certainly bless you and multiply your descendants. 15 So Abraham obtained the promise by showing patience. 16 People pledge by something greater than themselves. A solemn pledge guarantees what they say and shuts down any argument. 17 When God wanted to further demonstrate to the heirs of the promise that his purpose doesn’t change, he guaranteed it with a solemn pledge. 18 So these are two things that don’t change, because it’s impossible for God to lie. He did this so that we, who have taken refuge in him, can be encouraged to grasp the hope that is lying in front of us. 19 This hope, which is a safe and secure anchor for our whole being, enters the sanctuary behind the curtain. 20 That’s where Jesus went in advance and entered for us, since he became a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

Good Morning! To God give the glory! Great things he has done!

Patience is that word that makes most of us cringe. We want things now. When we’re hungry, we want to eat now. When we have a problem, we want to solve it now. When we pray to God, we want to see the answer now. Only God knows when we are ready to receive his revelation for our lives.

God promises us that his purpose doesn’t change, and he will provide for our needs. God listens and directs us along our faith journey. We must be diligent in our faithfulness to the promise because that promise is where we find the hope to allow us to overcome our adversities.

During our times of struggle, it is essential for us to have friends who can help us keep focused on what is good. God does not plan, nor wish, for us to be alone. It is in our relationships that we find the strength to take our next step even when the way seems unclear.

By God’s grace, we will find the peace and joy that we need to sustain our patience.

Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. Patience is hard for us. We want our answers now. Thank you for your patience in us. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Even in the most challenging circumstances, God can fill us with joy.

By faith, hope remains!  Pastor Liz
