Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 27, 2026
Psalm 18:1-5
1 He said: I love you, LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my solid rock, my fortress, my rescuer. My God is my rock I take refuge in him! he’s my shield, my salvation’s strength, my place of safety. 3 Because he is praiseworthy, I cried out to the LORD, and I was saved from my enemies. 4 Death’s cords were wrapped around me; rivers of wickedness terrified me. 5 The cords of the grave surrounded me; death’s traps held me tight.
Good Morning! Take refuge in God!
On a cold winter morning, we have the opportunity to sit and ponder God’s love, mercy, and grace. Holding and maintaining space for God can be challenging when we are immersed in the chaos of everyday life. There’s just so much to do. Whether we go out to work or stay home, our days are often filled with the elements of living our daily routines.
It takes discipline not to allow our time with God to be interrupted. Whether it’s praying, meditating, or reading the Bible, we must be diligent. God is waiting and wants to spend time with us, enveloping us in love.
John Wesley provided a great example of practicing works of piety to grow closer to God. Our Methodist heritage began with his methodical approach to spending time with God. He faithfully scheduled time to pray, read, and hear Scripture as the foundation of his journey of living a holy life by actively cooperating with God’s saving grace.
The current weather is a perfect time to start anew, spending time with God.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! We’re sorry when we neglect growing our faith. Thank you for loving us despite our failure to check in. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Embrace and cherish time with God each day.
God is available and waiting to spend time with us! Pastor Liz
