Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 26, 2023
Read Matthew 28:16-20
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
Good Morning, God is with Us: Today and every day!
I ask all who share this devotional with me to please be in prayer for the members of Rose Park UMC. Yesterday, the church was damaged by an arsonist. No one was in or near the church at the time, so no one was injured. Thanks be to God. We will not know the extent of the damage until we are able to enter the church this morning, but things can always be repaired and replaced. For now, we pray and ask God for guidance as we overcome this unimaginable challenge. We are given strength by God our Creator. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 We as a body of believers are called to give thanks for everything, pray continuously, and praise God. Hallelujah!
I preached this past Sunday about making lemonade when life throws us lemons. Well, we have gallons of lemonade to make, but we shall joyfully squeeze those lemons with all our hearts. I woke up this morning singing “We shall overcome.”
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome, someday.
Chorus
Oh, deep in my heart,
I do believe
We shall overcome, someday.
We are not alone,
We are not alone,
We are not alone, today.
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe
We are not alone today.
The Lord will see us through,
The Lord will see us through,
The Lord will see us through today
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe
The Lord will see us through today.
This morning we read and are called: 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
Loving God, Thank You for being with us. When we are weak, you are with us to lift us out of the mud so that we may find your glory. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is with us always — in seasons of grief and in times of joy.
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe! Pastor Liz
