Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

Read Matthew 6:25-34

25 “Therefore, I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you’ll eat or what you’ll drink, or about your body, what you’ll wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t sow seed or harvest grain or gather crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are? 27 Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Notice how the lilies in the field grow. They don’t wear themselves out with work, and they don’t spin cloth. 29 But I say to you that even Solomon in all of his splendor wasn’t dressed like one of these. 30 If God dresses grass in the field so beautifully, even though it’s alive today and tomorrow it’s thrown into the furnace, won’t God do much more for you, you people of weak faith? 31 Therefore, don’t worry and say, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ 32 Gentiles long for all these things. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Good Morning! Trust in God with all your heart, soul, and strength.

Yesterday, we considered God’s omnipotence and our place as God’s children. We talked about letting go of the small things that consume our energy as we try to micro-manage our lives and even the lives of others.

Let’s reconsider the need to be present today, at this moment. When we worry about what tomorrow will bring and try to manipulate all of the variables that might come into play, we sometimes miss our most precious moments.

Think of the parent who says, “I’m busy right now. I’ll play with you tomorrow, or we will spend time walking in the park this weekend.” It seems that often tomorrow never comes because there is always some new fire to which we must attend, and then in the blink of an eye, the child is grown and that potentially precious moment is lost forever.

God, our loving parent, wants to spend time with us now and always. We must quit making excuses as to why we don’t have time to talk to God. For we know not the time, nor the place . . . Don’t miss the opportunity to love God and love one another!

My friends, we must not spend our time worrying about tomorrow because God promises to care for all those who call Jesus, Lord and Savior. Instead, focus on being present in today as we allow ourselves to be transformed into the beings for which God plans. For today: Live your life fully, be amazed by God’s glory, and love as if there is no tomorrow.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. Again, we come to you with worry. We want to know what tomorrow will bring. Help us give over our worries and live for today. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I trust that God has a good plan for my future.
