Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 8, 2025
Psalm 119:1-8
1 Those whose way is blameless who walk in the LORD’s Instruction—are truly happy! 2 Those who guard God’s laws are truly happy! They seek God with all their hearts. 3 They don’t even do anything wrong! They walk in God’s ways. 4 God, you have ordered that your decrees should be kept most carefully. 5 How I wish my ways were strong when it comes to keeping your statutes! 6 Then I wouldn’t be ashamed when I examine all your commandments. 7 I will give thanks to you with a heart that does right as I learn your righteous rules. 8 I will keep your statutes. Please don’t leave me all alone!
Good Morning! Happy are those who walk with God!
Please don’t leave me all alone!
These are interesting words that set up a paradox within us at times. I imagine most of us have said or even shouted, “Just leave me alone!” Do we really want to be alone, or just away from the current situation or person with whom we are angry?
When we walk away in those moments, it is easy to fall into despair as we begin reliving the things that led to the angry moment. We find ourselves in the “He said, she said” argument and get caught in a cycle of circular logic.
God created us to live in community and develop relationships. Strong relationships with God and with others are the key to our finding our way, especially when we face challenges.
We inherently need someone to say, “Everything is going to be okay!” Even when we doubt those words, we need for someone to say them and believe them. Our strength comes from hope founded in God and believing that God will take care of us.
O God! Please don’t leave me all alone!
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We think we want to be left alone, but we actually want to be comforted by you. Thank you for always being with us. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Our strength comes from God!
