Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 8, 2026
Matthew 14:22-23
22 Right then, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side of the lake while he dismissed the crowds. 23 When he sent them away, he went up onto a mountain by himself to pray. Evening came and he was alone.
Good Morning! Take time to be Holy
Imagine being part of a successful event. There are likely to be unexpected challenges along the way. For example, the caterer needs an extra extension cord, and you are sent to find one. Of course, at this time, technology issues top the list, but you overcome the problems, and all agree that things went very well.
The logical result is to go and celebrate your success with your fellow planners. Instead, you choose to stay back and spend time alone before joining your friends. Sometimes, I just need time alone to breathe and mentally debrief. Part of this process is engaging in conversation with God. Giving thanks and glory to God reminds me that without God’s guidance, I am weak and struggle to find my way.
God is the guiding force in our lives, even when we don’t realize it.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! We like to think that we can do things on our own. Thanks for being by our side to nudge us when we start to falter. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Jesus showed us to take time to be with God.
Talk to God each day! Pastor Liz
