Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 9, 2026
Psalm 121:1-8
1 I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. 3 God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. 4 No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! 5 The LORD is your protector; the LORD is your shade right beside you. 6 The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. 8 The LORD will protect you on your journeys whether going or coming from now until forever from now.
Good Morning! My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
We are called to be the face of Christ to the world. This calling can put us in awkward situations at times. How should we react to the injustice we see and read about in the news? We understandably think, “I’m too old, or I don’t have the ability to help.”
Our first obligation is to see and hear the cry of those being oppressed. We can’t close our eyes and cover our ears and pretend that everything is okay. Next, we pray and listen for God’s words as they enter our hearts.
For those called to action, God is our protector. While some are called to be on the front line, others are called to provide financial support, make calls, spread the word, feed workers, or provide housing. Whatever role we are given, God will be with us, leading the way.
It is important that we answer as we are called, but not overstep and implement our own agendas. Our human tendencies often result in actions that aggravate rather than calm the situation. God directs us to begin all things with love.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! Open our hearts so we may hear and see those in need. Help us listen to your call to action. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: God is by our side all day, every day.
Begin each day grounded in God’s love! Pastor Liz
