Read Matthew 25:35-40
35 I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. 36 I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 “Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’
Good Morning! Blessed are the sheep who care for the lambs!
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs!” What does it mean to be a Christian? It certainly begins with choosing to accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. However, this is not an end in itself. I know some who believe that if they “behave” themselves, attend church regularly, and pray occasionally, they are good to “go”.
Following Christ is so much more. What does it mean to “feed my lambs”? First, being a Christian is not something done in isolation. We are called to be part of the community of faith. As part of the community, we are to interact with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to provide support and encouragement for one another as we work to spiritually nourish one another. We are called to gather in all, so that none may perish. We are to take care of all of God’s children, not just the ones who look or act like we do.
To be a Christian is not a passive event where you sit watching and waiting for something to happen. You can’t just be an “arm-chair” quarterback analyzing all of the possible scenarios and critiquing all of the mistakes being made by those playing the games. Likewise, we can’t become the gossip corner whispering about what others are doing or are not doing.
When we choose Christ we are choosing to take an active role in our faith journey. Sometimes this means that we must take a step of faith and believe that God will provide us with what we need. The Good News: God is Love, Love is God. When we let love be the lens through which we see the world, we will know what we must do. It seems that we have arrived back to Jesus and what we should do. 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. It seems that we are must revisit Your Word so many times. May we continue moving towards the light as we take our next steps of faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When I feed the hungry, I am feeding Jesus.
