Morning Devotional 022924 Go Where You Are Called

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  February 29, 2024

Hebrews 11:8-12

8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out without knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he lived in the land he had been promised as a stranger. He lived in tents along with Isaac and Jacob, who were coheirs of the same promise. 10 He was looking forward to a city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 By faith even Sarah received the ability to have a child, though she herself was barren and past the age for having children, because she believed that the one who promised was faithful. 12 So descendants were born from one man (and he was as good as dead). They were as many as the number of the stars in the sky and as countless as the grains of sand on the seashore.

Good Morning! Bless the faith of Abraham who fathered a great nation!

It is hard to imagine the faith that Abraham and Sarah lived. They listened to God and followed their call to walk before God and go into an unknown land. When I remember some of the moves that I have made in my lifetime, I think of the anxiety that accompanied packing/unpacking, setting up my home, and learning my way around a new area.

Abraham and Sarah needed to find a water source, a safe place to set up their home, and what food could be found. Of course, they didn’t have the convenience of the local Walmart or Grocery Store. We also need to factor in their ages at the time they were called.

Just as God called Abraham and Sarah, God calls us, the ordinary, to do extraordinary things. Who in their right mind would plan such an excursion in the late years of their life? Only by the grace of God, are we, the faithful, able to run and not be weary, walk and not be faint.

Stop and listen! How is God calling us to serve him?

Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Even when we feel insignificant, You call us worthy and use us to exemplify Your glory. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Our limited perceptions cannot limit God.

Go where you are called! Pastor Liz
