Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
Mar. 1, 2025
James 1:13-18
13 No one who is tested should say, “God is tempting me!” This is because God is not tempted by any form of evil, nor does he tempt anyone. 14 Everyone is tempted by their own cravings; they are lured away and enticed by them. 15 Once those cravings conceive, they give birth to sin; and when sin grows up, it gives birth to death. 16 Don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above. These gifts come down from the Father, the creator of the heavenly lights, in whose character there is no change at all. 18 He chose to give us birth by his true word, and here is the result: we are like the first crop from the harvest of everything he created.
Good Morning, All good gifts come from heaven above!
One of our human frailties is our cravings. Sometimes, we crave certain foods or drinks, especially those that are not good for us. Other times, we crave attention, success, and recognition. Think about a neglected child who uses bad behavior in search of attention. In that case, even bad attention is better than no attention.
God gifts us beyond measure. There is nothing we can do that is comparable to God’s capacity to bless us! In all things, give thanks. In all situations, share your blessings! Do not hoard God’s gifts because they are meant to be shared with all. The more we share them, the greater they grow! By God's grace, we can let go of our physical and emotional cravings.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! We love you, Lord. Thank you for showing us a better way. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God helps us overcome temptation.
Talk to God when you feel pulled toward evil. ! Pastor Liz
