Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
March 10, 2023
Read Matthew 19:13-15
13 Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them. 14 “Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children.” 15 Then he blessed the children and went away from there.
Good Morning, Jesus loves the little children.
If only we could recapture the awe, wonder, and innocence of our youth. Today, I write in honor of my dad and mom. They both dedicated their lives to the children they taught. Between them, they amassed about eighty years of teaching. The number of students that they impacted would number into the thousands. Even in their later years, they would talk about their students as if they were their own. They loved, respected, and were kept young by their “kids”.
When Facebook started, they were so excited to reconnect with many of them. They would see a post, and suddenly a memory of a much earlier time was triggered. As I watched their faces when telling the stories, the wrinkles faded, and their eyes brightened. It is truly a special calling to dedicate your life to serving the needs of the children, part of the least of these of which Jesus spoke.
Teachers share themselves selflessly with those they teach. You don’t become a teacher because you get summers off or for the “great” pay. Becoming a teacher is a labor of love. Jesus said, let the little children come to me. Teachers nurture their “children” and teach them to see the possibilities that lie before and within them. They help them open the doors and windows to the world around them.
As a teacher with their students gathered before them, God looks at us and sees the possibilities, and nurtures us so that we may find our way. For God so loved the world . . .
Let the little children come to me!
Knowing God, Thank You for being with us. Thank you! You are our creator and our teacher. Open our hearts and minds so that we can see You! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Recapture your inner child and see God’s glory!
We are precious in the sight of God! Pastor Liz
