Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  April 8, 2025

Jeremiah 17:5-10

5 The LORD proclaims: Cursed are those who trust in mere humans, who depend on human strength and turn their hearts from the LORD. 6 They will be like a desert shrub that doesn’t know when relief comes. They will live in the parched places of the wilderness, in a barren land where no one survives. 7 Happy are those who trust in the LORD, who rely on the LORD. 8 They will be like trees planted by the streams, whose roots reach down to the water. They won’t fear drought when it comes; their leaves will remain green. They won’t be stressed in the time of drought or fail to bear fruit. 9 The most cunning heart it’s beyond help. Who can figure it out? 10 I, the LORD, probe the heart and discern hidden motives, to give everyone what they deserve, the consequences of their deeds.

Good Morning. Happy are those who trust in the Lord!

Fear not! God is with us!

God promises to provide for our needs, yet we invariably worry when challenges come.

Jesus says, “25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” Luke 12:25-26

Worrying causes physical and mental ailments that distract us from our mission of serving God. When we allow ourselves to be consumed with worry, we close off the avenues from which our help comes. We should spend our time on more fruitful things than worry. We should talk to God, read the Bible, and share in fellowship with the body of faith.

Through our relationship with God, we gain strength and love, allowing us to endure the droughts and lean years that come. Praise God in all things and accept the blessings that God provides.

Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We allow worry to take control of our lives. Help us to release that worry while we focus on what is good and lovely. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Let go of your worries and praise God for all things!
