Morning Devotional 041222 Is It I, Lord?

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

April 12, 2022

Read Exodus 3:7-14

7 Then the LORD said, “I’ve clearly seen my people oppressed in Egypt. I’ve heard their cry of injustice because of their slave masters. I know about their pain. 8 I’ve come down to rescue them from the Egyptians in order to take them out of that land and bring them to a good and broad land, a land that’s full of milk and honey, a place where the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites all live. 9 Now the Israelites’ cries of injustice have reached me. I’ve seen just how much the Egyptians have oppressed them. 10 So get going. I’m sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I to go to Pharaoh and to bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” 12 God said, “I’ll be with you. And this will show you that I’m the one who sent you. After you bring the people out of Egypt, you will come back here and worship God on this mountain.” 13 But Moses said to God, “If I now come to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they are going to ask me, ‘What’s this God’s name?’ What am I supposed to say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I Am Who I Am. So say to the Israelites, ‘I Am has sent me to you.’”

Good Morning, God said to Moses, “I Am Who I Am!”

Imagine yourself walking around one day doing the ordinary things that you do, then suddenly out of nowhere God asks you to do something extraordinary. How would you respond to God? Would you ignore the words that you hear? Would you say to yourself that you are dreaming because you don’t know anything about that which God is asking of you? Or maybe you’re in one of those times where you don’t even hear God speaking.

In Chapter 4, we read of Moses’ apprehension. 13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”14 Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. 17 But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.”

God promises to provide us with everything we need to answer his calling. First, we must be listening for God to speak. Second, we must listen and answer, “Here I am.” Next, we must trust God to give us the tools we need as promised. Finally, we must step out in faith and accept God’s calling. Each of us has a calling, and sometimes our calling doesn’t reveal itself for many years. God’s time is not our time and God’s ways are not our ways. Open yourself and be ready to follow.

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Like Moses, we are apprehensive when you call us to serve you. We believe that we are unworthy and unable to complete such a task. Help us grow in faith with each step we take. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: With God to help me, I am more than enough.
