Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 27, 2025
John 4:9-14
9 The Samaritan woman asked, “Why do you, a Jewish man, ask for something to drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (Jews and Samaritans didn’t associate with each other.) 10 Jesus responded, “If you recognized God’s gift and who is saying to you, ‘Give me some water to drink,’ you would be asking him and he would give you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you don’t have a bucket and the well is deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave this well to us, and he drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.”
Good Morning. Happy Lord’s Day!
Water is a gift from God. We, humans, cannot make water. The power of water is immense. Water flows, cleans, quenches, washes, carves, distributes, floods, irrigates, and destroys. Without water, living things would cease to exist. Early civilizations purposely developed near a source of water.
When a water source becomes contaminated, the living things must move or die. Humans have learned ways to temporarily control or harness the power of water. We build dams to contain the water, and we place wheels in the water to generate power, but at some point, the power of the water takes over.
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we receive the living water that acts like a freshwater stream bubbling within us. This source provides us with the power of the Holy Spirit. The energy generated by this living water will never dry up, allowing us to journey toward eternal life.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! By your grace, we are rooted near the living water that provides eternal life. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Christ quenches our spiritual thirst.
Drink and be satisfied! Pastor Liz
