Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Read Luke 18:15-17
15 People were bringing babies to Jesus so that he would bless them. When the disciples saw this, they scolded them. 16 Then Jesus called them to him and said, “Allow the children to come to me. Don’t forbid them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people like these children. 17 I assure you that whoever doesn’t welcome God’s kingdom like a child will never enter it.”
Good Morning, Jesus loves the little children!
I love to watch children discover new things. They are in awe of what they see, hear, and touch. These discoveries happen in the simplest ways: in a classroom experiment, walking along a path, playing in the yard, and anywhere or anytime that they are there. Those faces are precious! Remember the first time a baby discovers their own toes: precious.
Jesus calls each of us to approach the throne of God as children. Children who reach out and look for all that is good in the world around us. Children who do not judge others. Children who love others with all their heart, soul, and mind.
As adults, it is easy to become cynical and miss the goodness that envelops us. We become too busy to notice a drop of rain balancing itself upon a flower blossom. God, our Creator, made our world filled with unique, wonderful people and beautiful creations. Sometimes grownups think that they are too grown to love life’s gifts.
After all, adults must go to work, pay the bills, clean the house, . . . Of course, we must do all of those things and more, but I believe that it is so important to take time to find joy in God’s creation as well. The problem comes when we are so consumed by being “adults” that we bury our human traits of awe and wonder deep inside us. We become like Peter (Pan) all grown up and too busy to play.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Help us find our inner child. No matter how busy we are, we must take time to see the world through the eyes of a child. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
