Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 14, 2025
Isaiah 35:8-10
8 A highway will be there. It will be called The Holy Way. The unclean won’t travel on it, but it will be for those walking on that way. Even fools won’t get lost on it; 9 no lion will be there, and no predator will go up on it. None of these will be there; only the redeemed will walk on it. 10 The LORD’s ransomed ones will return and enter Zion with singing, with everlasting joy upon their heads. Happiness and joy will overwhelm them; grief and groaning will flee away.
Good Morning! Fear not, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy!
I can’t count the number of times that I have made a wrong turn and become totally lost on the way to my destination. Being lost can be a debilitating feeling. Back in the days before cell phones and GPS, getting really lost was a strong possibility, especially at night or during stormy weather.
I often marvel at the fortitude of the early settlers who set out to find a better life without maps or clear landmarks to guide their way. They relied on the stars and placed their trust in God to lead them to their destination. Imagine if the highway that Isaiah is describing is a physical highway: a highway where even fools won’t get lost. That alone brings singing and joy to my soul.
Isaiah’s Holy Way is a spiritual highway upon which Jesus will lead us home. The Holy Way allows God’s children to overcome the obstacles that may occur. With Jesus as our guide, we can focus on our destination. Our fears and our frustrations will be transformed into happiness and joy!
Lord, you bless us abundantly! You sent us an amazing gift: Jesus. By your grace, we are blessed to find our way home. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When we allow Jesus to guide our way, we are filled with joy.
Those who focus on Jesus are filled with joy! Pastor Liz
