Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

May 9, 2026

Ecclesiastes 3:9-15

9 What do workers gain from all their hard work? 10 I have observed the task that God has given human beings. 11 God has made everything fitting in its time, but has also placed eternity in their hearts, without enabling them to discover what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there’s nothing better for them but to enjoy themselves and do what’s good while they live. 13 Moreover, this is the gift of God: that all people should eat, drink, and enjoy the results of their hard work. 14 I know that whatever God does will last forever; it’s impossible to add to it or take away from it. God has done this so that people are reverent before him. 15 Whatever happens has already happened, and whatever will happen has already happened before. And God looks after what is driven away.

Good Morning! God has made everything fitting it its time.

We are often confused or frustrated when trying to figure out why things happen when or how they do. Generally, we try to be in charge of our own destiny and therefore we think we should have control of the timeline.

Scripture frequently emphasizes that God's timing is perfect, purposeful, and higher than human understanding, encouraging patience while waiting for His plan to unfold. Key verses include Isaiah 60:22, "I, the Lord, will make it happen" when the time is right, and Ecclesiastes 3:11, noting He makes all things beautiful in His time.

12 I know that there’s nothing better for them but to enjoy themselves and do what’s good while they live.

God promises to that all things will come together when the time is right.

Dutch Christian holocaust survivor, Corrie ten Boom, described life like a tapestry. She said, “Although the threads of my life have often seemed knotted, I know, by faith, that on the other side of the embroidery, there is a crown.” You see, from one side of the tapestry, the different threads appear chaotic. But when we turn over that same tapestry, we see how those threads create something beautiful. Here, we see a woman who experienced a holocaust but could see God’s hand weaving meaning and beauty even in the chaos.

So, when life feels tangled and knotted, do not despair. Let your longing for “seeing how all things fit together” lead you to deeper intimacy with the One who holds all things together and makes life beautiful.

God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! You set all things in motion: beginning, middle, and end. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Thought for the day: God’s love and mercy can restore our brokenness.

When the time comes, God makes all things beautiful!  Pastor Liz
