Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 14, 2025
Galatians 6:9-10
9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. 10 So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.
Good Morning!
Sometimes, no matter how much effort we put into something or someone, we still fail. At these times, it is easy to give up and walk away. We think, “My efforts are not making a difference.”
Jesus teaches us to be patient and endure life's droughts. Instead of giving up, we should look for new ways to bolster our efforts.
We read similar ideas when Peter asks if forgiving someone seven times is enough, and the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. If we are forgiven the enormous debt of sin against a holy God, how much more should we be eager to forgive those who sin against us, who are just as sinful as we are?
I’m also reminded of the servant who asked to nurture the tree that hadn’t produced fruit in three years. He asked to be given time to nourish and tend to the tree for one more year, and then, if no fruit grew, cut it down. Some of us take longer than others to grow into maturity. Praise God for allowing us time to be transformed.
Each act of kindness and support generates good results over time. God makes everything beautiful in his time. Never give up on doing the good work to which we are called.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We like it when things are easily fixed. Help us accept the challenge and never give up. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Joyfully serve one another!
Each seed we plant contains the possibility of new life. Pastor Liz
