Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 17, 2024
John 16:7-11
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
Good Morning! Jesus is sending the Holy Spirit to guide us!
It is good to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. When fully engaged in life, it is easy to get sidetracked from our objective. We have errands to run, cooking to do, laundry and beds to make, and schedules to follow.
Even when our schedule includes time with God, are we simply checking a box, or are we purposely present with God? When I’m away from home, many distractions disappear because the proximity is missing. In this example, I’m on a ship: how many errands can I need to run?
By God's grace, the Holy Spirit leads, rearranges, teaches, guides, and molds us into the beings God calls us to be. We get so busy that we don’t take time to allow the changes to upload. Perhaps we would benefit from a reboot/relaunch button or reminder as we find on our devices. When we take time for respite, the reboots happen more naturally as we spend time in meditation and prayer with God.
Affirming God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Help us to recharge and reboot often so we don’t get stuck in our old ways. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Through Christ, we are offered grace to spend time with God.
Is it time for a reboot? Pastor Liz
