Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

May 21, 2022

Read Psalm 91:9-16

9 Because you’ve made the LORD my refuge, the Most High, your place of residence 10 no evil will happen to you; no disease will come close to your tent. 11 Because he will order his messengers to help you, to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will carry you with their own hands so you don’t bruise your foot on a stone. 13 You’ll march on top of lions and vipers; you’ll trample young lions and serpents underfoot. 14 God says, “Because you are devoted to me, I’ll rescue you. I’ll protect you because you know my name. 15 Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer. I’ll be with you in troubling times. I’ll save you and glorify you. 16 I’ll fill you full with old age. I’ll show you my salvation.”

Good Morning, This is the day that the Lord has made!

God our creator filled our world with signs and wonders to remind us that we are never alone. All who call Christ, Lord, and Savior, are protected as God promises. Whatever adversities that we face, even those we bring upon ourselves, God is with us. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Have you ever had a time when you have thought, I can manage this all on my own. We let pride get in our way and struggle because we don’t want to admit our need for help. There are also times when we are embarrassed by our self-inflicted struggles when we close ourselves off and “hide” our troubles from others, even God. Despite our human frailties, God is waiting for us to reach out or even cry out. God! I need you!

In what might seem like our lowest moments, grows beauty and new life. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we are lifted up on the wings of love that only God provides. One of the best places to find comfort comes from reading Scripture. Strength and love are emitted through the living Word of God. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. O Lord, You are with us always. Even in our darkest days, You are here. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I can trust God’s promises.
