Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  May 28, 2024

1 Thessalonians 5:8-15

8 Since we belong to the day, let’s stay sober, wearing faithfulness and love as a piece of armor that protects our body and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 God didn’t intend for us to suffer his wrath but rather to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 Jesus died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him. 11 So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are doing already. 12 Brothers and sisters, we ask you to respect those who are working with you, leading you, and instructing you. 13 Think of them highly with love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are disorderly. Comfort the discouraged. Help the weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure no one repays a wrong with a wrong, but always pursue the good for each other and everyone else.

Good Morning! Live in peace with each other.

It would be wonderful to live in a world where everyone works together peacefully and respectfully, and all encourage one another. Too often, we focus on what the other person is doing wrong (or differently than we would) instead of what they are doing well.

When we praise one another's strengths, we build each other up, and this encourages everyone to do their best. It also removes the in-fighting that occurs when we point out one another's shortcomings.

In a peaceful environment, everyone is respected for their efforts and gently guided to improve their weaknesses. This is how we grow together as the body of believers. Everyone’s strengths become the strength of the whole, and the weaknesses disappear. One body, one Lord of All!

Comfort the discouraged. Help the weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure no one repays a wrong with a wrong, but always pursue the good for each other and everyone else.

Encouraging God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. When we focus on what is good, the evil fades away. Help us work to your Glory! We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Uplift those around us with love and encouragement.

Love One Another! Pastor Liz
