Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 2, 2024
1 Peter 4:7-13
7 Therefore, be self-controlled and clearheaded so you can pray. 8 Above all, show sincere love to each other, because love brings about the forgiveness of many sins. 9 Open your homes to each other without complaining. 10 And serve each other according to the gift each person has received, as good managers of God’s diverse gifts. 11 Whoever speaks should do so as those who speak God’s word. Whoever serves should do so from the strength that God furnishes. Do this so that in everything God may be honored through Jesus Christ. To him be honor and power forever and always. Amen. 12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised about the fiery trials that have come among you to test you. These are not strange happenings. 13 Instead, rejoice as you share Christ’s suffering. You share his suffering now so that you may also have overwhelming joy when his glory is revealed.
Good Morning! To God be the Glory!
From time to time, I stop and reflect upon my life’s journey. These reflections are often prompted by some noteworthy passage of time: the birth of a child, a wedding, or a death. These events seem to be stamps marking beginnings and endings.
It is interesting to examine a past challenge from the perspective of one who overcame or survived it. Our challenges include injuries, illnesses, changes in our job status, or relationships. When we are in the midst of the problem, it seems insurmountable, but the greater the distance that has passed, the magnitude of the problem seems to lessen.
Throughout the Bible, we read stories of those who endure great trials. These stories validate and encourage us when we struggle. We learn that by the grace of God, all things are possible. Those who trust and live by faith will be carried through the storms that rage around us. Praise be to God!
Encouraging God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Our doubts pop in when we struggle. Help us turn to You when we are in need. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Through it all, God gives us hope.
Move boldly to God’s glory! Pastor Liz
