Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Read Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. 29 Put on my yoke and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. 30 My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.”
Good Morning, Let us turn over our heavy loads to Christ.
Our God is an awesome God who cares for us. Many of us struggle with our heavy loads. Our loads come from many sources. When we assess the demands placed on our lives, we can categorize these worries into many categories: work, family, personal, and even church. Some of our demands come from others and many are self-inflicted.
Maybe we sub-consciencely like to worry or think that we are supposed to worry. Hmmm . . . That opens a whole other realm of challenges. Jesus taught us through His words and actions to pray to God and to allow ourselves the grace to give over our worries so that we might find peace. I often find myself turning to Philippians 4:6-8 when I can’t seem to let go of a worry. The Words of Paul in his letter to the people of Philippi always bring me back to what I know is true.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
It seems that we spend a lot of time looking for answers to get rid of worries and anxiety. The answer is before us: Let go, and let God! Seek Peace so that you may find joy! Turn to God who is waiting with open arms!
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. O God, here we are again looking for relief from our worries. Help us see what is right before us so that we may find peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: I will give my burdens to Jesus, who always offers help.
