Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 6, 2024
Psalm 31:19-24
19 How great is the goodness that you’ve reserved for those who honor you, that you commit to those who take refuge in you in the sight of everyone! 20 You hide them in the shelter of your wings, safe from human scheming. You conceal them in a shelter, safe from accusing tongues. 21 Bless the LORD, because he has wondrously revealed his faithful love to me when I was like a city under siege! 22 When I was panicked, I said, “I’m cut off from your eyes!” But you heard my request for mercy when I cried out to you for help. 23 All you who are faithful, love the LORD! The LORD protects those who are loyal, but he pays the proud back to the fullest degree. 24 All you who wait for the LORD, be strong and let your heart take courage.
Good Morning! God bless us one and all!
21 Bless the LORD, because he has wondrously revealed his faithful love to me when I was like a city under siege!
We have moments when we feel like a city under siege when it seems that all of the arrows are heading toward us. It is easy to feel panic in those moments and try to hide from the world. We try to lock ourselves in a space removed from the chaos, but our ears hear the impending footsteps coming ever closer.
When all seems lost, we call out to God for mercy. God hears our cries, invites us to come, and sets a barrier for our protection. Just as quickly as the panic began, our heart slowly returns to a normal beat and we can focus on slowing our breathing. We feel comfort as God continues to protect us in this moment of vulnerability.
24 All you who wait for the LORD, be strong and let your heart take courage.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to. Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
When we are feeling out of sorts, God is ready to be revealed to us through reading the Bible.
Sustaining God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. In our moments of weakness, you are strong. You provide us with a dwelling place free from despair. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God comforts us through scripture daily.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet! Pastor Liz
