Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 6, 2025
Lamentations 3:19-24
19 The memory of my suffering and homelessness is bitterness and poison. 20 I can’t help but remember and am depressed. 21 I call all this to mind—therefore, I will wait. 22 Certainly the faithful love of the LORD hasn’t ended; certainly God’s compassion isn’t through! 23 They are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness. 24 I think: The LORD is my portion! Therefore, I’ll wait for him.
Good Morning! Great is thy faithfulness!
Each generation has significant dates that everyone remembers. Some dates are known for some atrocity that occurs, others are known for some historic and/or historic act. June 6, 1944 was D-Day. It was also my Granny’s birthday. I remember that she felt honored that such an event coincided with her birthday.
D-Day certainly represented a horrific loss of lives, and I can’t imagine having the courage to storm the shores of Normandy and rush into almost certain death. Without the heroic efforts of these soldiers and sailors, it is likely the war would have either lasted for much longer or the results would have been very different. This day is recognized by historians as the turning point in Allied Forces efforts to stop the progression of the Nazis.
Many verses in Lamentations bring up those things that we would rather had never happened, but there is always the hope that pulls us through to the other side. God’s love and compassion are with us always, and each day is a new day full of renewed possibilities. Great is the faithfulness of our Lord.
Psalm 30:5 reminds us while weeping or difficult times may endure for a night, joy and new beginnings will ultimately arrive with the coming of the morning.
24 I think: The LORD is my portion! Therefore, I’ll wait for him.
Giving Lord, who blesses us abundantly! We struggle with our sadness and challenges. Thank you for giving us new beginnings. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Even in difficult times, I can rejoice in God’s faithfulness.
Joy returns in the morning! Pastor Liz
