Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 29, 2026
Matthew 6:9-13
9 Pray like this: Our Father who is in heaven, uphold the holiness of your name. 10 Bring in your kingdom so that your will is done on earth as it’s done in heaven. 11 Give us the bread we need for today. 12 Forgive us for the ways we have wronged you, just as we also forgive those who have wronged us. 13 And don’t lead us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Good Morning! Start each day with prayer!
The one certainty in life is that life is uncertain. How’s that for circular reasoning?
Truly, the more convinced we allow ourselves to become that we are on the right path, the more likely we will encounter a detour that changes our course. Sometimes these detours happen because of choices we make (or fail to make), but others are forced upon us when the road ahead is closed.
I recall traveling to Louisiana once. We were driving south on I-95. At some point, we were supposed to veer west, but we missed seeing the sign. We were on a highway that we had traveled many times, so we didn’t realize that we were off course. By the time we realized our error, we had traveled many miles away from our destination.
The question becomes, “How do we 'plan' for the uncertainties that will surely come?” I believe that we get up each day, pray to God, thank God for another day, and then enter the day with joy. Things might happen differently than we expect, but no matter what, God is with us to see us through. “Don’t worry about tomorrow, for each day has enough trouble of its own.
Day by day, day by day,
O sweet Lord, three things I pray.
To see thee more clearly,
Love thee more dearly,
Follow thee more nearly,
Day by Day!
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! When we feel unsure, you are always listening to comfort us in our struggles. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Day by day, trust in God’s faithful provision.
Rejoice always! Pray continuously! Give thanks in all things! Pastor Liz
