Morning Devotional 060922 Reciprocal Blessings

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

June 9, 2022

Read James 5:13-16

13 If any of you are suffering, they should pray. If any of you are happy, they should sing. 14 If any of you are sick, they should call for the elders of the church, and the elders should pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Prayer that comes from faith will heal the sick, for the Lord will restore them to health. And if they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 For this reason, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve.

Good morning! The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve.

Prayer warriors are some of God’s most devoted servants. Praying on behalf of others is a huge blessing to the one offering up the prayer and of course for the one for whom the prayers are offered. My most blessed interaction with others is when we join together in prayer.

Throughout Jesus’ ministry on earth, he taught us how to pray and the need to pray often. No matter how little time that he had, nor how many lost sheep were waiting to be found, Jesus took time to pray.

Sometimes we are worried that we don’t have the right words! We are intimidated by the prayers we hear others pray. I believe that through the Holy Spirit within us even our sorrowful utterances, heartfelt sighs, and tears are understood by God. God is waiting for us to reach out however we are able. We may pray through music, through gardening, through sewing, through writing, and of course through words.

Never stop communicating with God who created us. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Imagine as you wait in an endless line that instead of focusing on your frustration, you take that moment to rejoice, pray, and give thanks to God.

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We know that you are with us and listening to us always. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: My spare moments offer opportunities to pray for others.

Rejoice, Pray, and Give Thanks! Pastor Liz
