Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 16, 2024
Psalm 78:1-8
1 Listen, my people, to my teaching; tilt your ears toward the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth with a proverb. I’ll declare riddles from days long gone 3 ones that we’ve heard and learned about, ones that our ancestors told us. 4 We won’t hide them from their descendants; we’ll tell the next generation all about the praise due the LORD and his strength the wondrous works God has done. 5 He established a law for Jacob and set up Instruction for Israel, ordering our ancestors to teach them to their children. 6 This is so that the next generation and children not yet born will know these things, and so they can rise up and tell their children 7 to put their hope in God never forgetting God’s deeds, but keeping God’s commandments 8 and so that they won’t become like their ancestors: a rebellious, stubborn generation, a generation whose heart wasn’t set firm and whose spirit wasn’t faithful to God.
Good Morning! Happy Father’s Day
Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”
God calls us to share his story to keep it alive for today and for those yet to be born. When we don’t or can’t share God’s story, when future generations know longer hear God’s story, when we allow God’s story to be buried or forgotten, evil will win.
The Bible contains God’s story. When our Bibles sit on the shelf covered with dust, we are failing God’s commands to love God, love one another, and go out and make disciples of the world.
It is a sacred duty of the elders of each generation to keep the traditions and the story alive. The children can’t be blamed for not adhering to words they have not been taught. As the torchbearers of our faith, it is our responsibility to ensure that the light of God's story never dims.
God ordered our ancestors to teach them to their children. 6 This is so that the next generation and children not yet born will know these things, and so they can rise up and tell their children 7 to put their hope in God, never forgetting God’s deeds, but keeping God’s commandments.
Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You abundantly bless us. Help us to share these gifts with all we meet. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Answer God’s call by sharing your faith with others.
Keep God’s story alive! Pastor Liz
