Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 26, 2022
Read Psalm 8:1-9
1 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! 2 From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. 3 When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place 4 what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? 5 You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. 6 You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet 7 all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, 8 the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea. 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
Good morning! Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
In all of God’s creation, there is such majesty and beauty. Each day there are new wonders to discover as we walk around gazing at the display surrounding us. From the mountains to the oceans, from the depth of the oceans to the stars in the skies, God’s handiwork surrounds us.
God gave us dominion over the earth, and with that gift we are given the responsibility to care for all of God’s creatures. Of course, we are limited by our own frailty, but God provides us with a masterpiece as our workspace. Like a blank canvas in the hands of an artist, God puts together all the pieces and colors to create an unimaginable landscape.
The possibilities are endless, but with great power comes great responsibility. To care for all of God’s creatures requires us to maintain the natural resources that are necessary for the survival of the earth and all of its inhabitants.
We must never become so self-consumed that we fail to notice the gifts found in nature. Things made by people are great, but everything God makes is magnificent. Take time to walk and observe the beauty of nature that surrounds us. Work to “clean” up and care for what we have and are continuing to be given.
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. All things bright and beautiful. The Lord God made them all. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When I care for creation, I join in God’s creative work.
Open your eyes to see! Pastor Liz
