Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Job 42:1-6
1 Job answered the LORD: 2 I know you can do anything; no plan of yours can be opposed successfully. 3 You said, “Who is this darkening counsel without knowledge?” I have indeed spoken about things I didn’t understand, wonders beyond my comprehension. 4 You said, “Listen, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will inform me.” 5 My ears had heard about you, but now my eyes have seen you. 6 Therefore, I relent and find comfort in dust and ashes.
Good Morning, Embrace the possibilities of the new day!
In Chapter 42, Job’s restoration begins as Job begins to humble himself before God. He begins by saying, “Lord, I know you can do anything.” He admitted his arrogance when he spoke about things he didn’t understand. Job accepted his role as a petitioner to God as he recognized that he must listen when God speaks, and he (Job) has the role of a child who asks, not the parent who is in charge. Finally, Job removed his blinders so that he could see the will of God. In true repentance, there must be not only conviction of sin but also repentance and godly sorrow for it, according to God, 2 Corinthians 7:9. Through his trials, Job has learned that God is just, merciful, and mighty to save.
How do we apply what Job has learned to our own lives? In our times of success, we must remove our haughty and boastful attitudes of being in control. This is not easy for us to do. We work hard to provide the best possibilities in our lives, and we often pride ourselves on the idea that we’ve “got this.” We believe that we are ready to take on our challenges. In our times of struggle, we fall into periods of doubt as we begin to question every decision we have ever made.
At each moment of each day, God is with us. God created us for a purpose. 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29
When we humble ourselves before God, admit our sinfulness, and proclaim Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will receive abundant blessings in our lives.
But “I know Whom I have believed,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.”
Loving God, We thank you for Your blessings. O God, we get so lost in trying to achieve earthly value that we lose sight of our path. Open our eyes so that we may see the blessings and plan you have placed before us. We Thank You! In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When you feel lost, talk to God. Don’t forget to listen!
Listen, God is speaking! Pastor Liz
